Organic heating pads

I spent my sewing time today making organic heating pads to sell at a fundraiser at Miss V's school

These are all different sizes, and are all filled with rice.
We are keeping one for ourselves 😊❤️

A sew-together bag Christmas present

Ever since my mom saw the sew together bag I made in early 2016  she has wished for one. So I made one for her for Christmas:

I love how it holds so much, and once you close it up, it's still not too big
She was so pleased that I finally made her one.  Now she just needs to figure out what to use it for 😉

Some Christmas sewing

My daughter loves unicorns. She has been looking at a unicorn quilt block pattern since forever, saying things like "ooooh look at this - but....that's too difficult for you to sew, isn't it?"
So naturally, I had to get the pattern. I did, and it sat around in my to-do list forever. Because it looked so intimidating. But I did finish this pillow for her in time for Christmas - and she loves it!

My 11 year old hair stylist and an early birthday present

Next Monday is my sons 9th birthday, I made him a floor cushion - and I just couldn't wait, so I gave it to him today!

I pieced blue strips from my bigger scraps, and quilted with a loopy pattern. The pillow is 65 cm square, so it is big enough for him to sit on, while playing games or watching tv - or building LEGOs or whatever else he does.

My feet are in the pictures for scale - because you all know how big my feet are, right? :)

The pillow is fully lined, and with its really big zipper, it is easy to just throw this pillow case in the wash.

In other news, I really desperately needed a haircut. So I asked my daugther, if she would do it, she reluctantly agreed. Yesterday she cut 4-5 inches off the length, aaaaah. But, I really wanted bangs....so today, she cut those too.

Yay. I am really happy with the result. And really proud of my very brave 11 year old hair stylist daugther!

Blue and Green Stars for my Bed

I am going to share some of the quilts I have finished while I didn't blog.
One of them is this huge quilt, it was finished in 2014.

I had wanted a star quilt for a long time, and also a new quilt for my bed - so a combination of the two seemed like a good idea.

I pieced all the stars and stitched them into two panels of 8 stars

Working on the 2 panels, instead of the entire quilt, made everything a lot easier. I could quilt it on my domestic machine without too much hazzle.

I attached the 2 panels by using a quilt-as-you-go method. I just googled it, and read a few how-to's and did what made the most sense to me.

It fits my bed, and I am really happy with how it turned out.

You can see on the backing, that I have stitched the 2 panels together right across the middle of the quilt.

The quilt-as-you-go method wasn't bad. I'd do it again. if I were to make another big quilt like this.

Pillowcase

We have a number of pillows and cushions at our house - as I imagine we all do :)
Only, at my house these pillows are a very poor-looking bunch. When I finished the hexagon pillowcase for our floor cushion, I vowed to prettify all our pillows. And I still haven't done it.

But now I have made a start. I have made a new pillowcase for one of the pillows in our couch.
Kaleidoscope pillow
The fabrics are all Kona Cotton - 7 different colors :) The kaleidoscope blocks are 11'' square and I am so happy with it!
The orange and purple stand out a lot in the photo, not so much in real life. Funny how that happens!

I am not all done sharing pictures from Vienna, but that will have to wait for my next post.

Christmas preparations

I have wanted to try this tutorial since I first saw it last year.
Like so many other things, I have been thinking about it, but haven't actually tried it until now! I found an old magazine that was going to be thrown out, and I started...
Testing my bow-making abilities
I was sure it was going to be impossible, but it wasn't that bad! I cut my strips a little too wide, and so I didn't have room for the 3rd layer - but hey! Who said I can't just leave that 3rd layer out and leave it as it is?!
That's what I did...I made a mistake by cutting the strips of paper too wide, but I made it work ;)
Now I just need to find some fancier paper - I am thinking the Christmas adds will be nice - and then I have to make some more, so we can have beautifully wrapped presents without having to spend money on the wrapping. Cool, huh?!

I found the PERFECT fabric!!

Look at this!!!
It a Debbie Mumm print, and it is absolutely perfect for the back of my Plain Spoken...
See how well it matches! I'm so happy. Now I need to go get some batting....
I'm always confused when it comes to batting..... What do you use? And why? I need some help here....

I ordered this book, and have been waiting very impatiently for it. It is awesome!! There are 23 quilts in here, and they are all gorgeous! I can't wait to get started :-)
You should visit the blog, or go see some of the patterns.... They are so so beautiful. Now if only there were 48 hours to each day, I would be all set! LOL!
I am trying to find ways to help Viola get over her dislike of buttons. And since we still have the owl- and the purple-craze going on, you can imagine my happiness when I found these little sweeties...
Maybe she won't mind if I use one of these? We'll have to see!

I also got to work a little more on my doll quilt for the Flickr swap. I'm al little happier with it now, and I'm sure that once I'm done, I'll be sad to see it go.
But that's how it's supposed to be :-)

AND......Jen at Crafty Giveaways is having another wonderful giveaway! Go enter! It's a partially finished quilt, and it is gorgeous!!!

Jacket for Ask

Hmm....2 posts in one day is not a good idea, but I just have to show you this quilted jacket I have made -well, it's almost finished- for Ask. It's denim, thinsulate batting and flannel... Should be nice and warm for fall :-)

I quilted the little car on the front, and a row of houses on the back. Forgot to take a picture of the houses, but it's hard to see the quilting in these pictures anyway!

It was fun to make, I made one for Viola last year, but this was so much easier! And his is a better fit.
I need to buy some buttons, sew some buttonholes (hate that), sew the buttons on, and yipee! It's done!
The pattern is from an old 70s childrens clothing pattern book. This is a size meant for a 3 year old. I had to shorten the sleeves a bit, but other than that, it fits. Clothes must have been VERY tight in the 70s.... Either that, or my Ask is big -he is, but not that big. LOL!

Don't forget to sign up for the Pay It Forward challenge! I can't wait to get started :-)

Have a great weekend..

I SPY quilttop done!

Look what I did today!
I really should have done some laundry, but Ask slept most of the day, and since we don't have a washing machine in the apartment, that was really not an option... Lucky me! So I sewed :-) And I'm really happy with how it is turning out.

I have a few different ideas for what borders -if any- I want. Hmm....how to decide?!

What would you do?

Another day at home

These are the pants I forgot to take a photo of yesterday. Viola wanted to wear them to kindergarten today, so I guess they have been approved :-)

Ask stayed home with me, he still has a cold.... We went out for a walk, he loves to sit in the backpack-carrier, and it's so much easier for me to get around that way!

And look at this find:

Someone was throwing it away! It will be perfect for Viola. It just needs a little fixing up, and it will be as good as new :-)

I also got my flickr Fat Quarter swap package from QuiltLady50 in the mail!

Look what she sent me! I'm so happy! Fantastic purple fabrics, a beautiful ribbon and a gorgeous handmade purse!

I am such a lucky swapper :-)

Time to sew

I finished Violas Mickey Mouse pants today, they are mid-calf-length, which she finds very wrong! "Mom! They are too small! These are not mine they are Asks!!" So maybe I will put them away until they fit him....in another 2 years :-)

I did sew a pair of pants she likes, I forgot to take a picture, so you'll have to wait until tomorrow to see them!

And Tonya was talking about forgetting things... I was driving myself nuts today, loosing everything. First, it was this:

I could have used a measuring tape instead, but I had just had it, and it must be here somewhere..... Eventually found it on my desk by the sewing machine!

Next it was my safety-pin. No, you did not misunderstand... This is my one and only safety-pin. Who, besides me, has only one!!?? That in itself is pretty silly (I always forget to buy more), but then loosing the one I do have!! That is really bad!

Well, I found that too, and promised myself -again- that I will buy myself some more safety-pins asap :-D

Now my sweetie is getting impatient, we have a stay-at-home-mini-date-while-the-kids-are-sleeping planned -so I'm off!

Miniquilt done :-)

The 6"-12" mini quilt for the Flickr swap is all done. You'll have to wait until Imagingermonkey has received it before you can see it :-)
I'm happy with it!

On our way today, we passed this church in downtown Copenhagen. I think it's beautiful!

And thank you all so much for the comments on the tent-situation! I have definately gotten some very good ideas -and links- and I have high hopes for an ugly-tent-free future! Thank you :-)

Sewing! YAY!

Today I got started on sewing the I SPY squares together. I set up my sewing machine in the kitchen, and it worked out really well..... Only one scare when Ask had crawled under the table and sat on the presser-foot! But luckily my hands were nowhere near the needle at the time :-)
It's an odd shape right now, but here's a little peek...

I managed to sew 4 rows today....that's 84 squares (for some reason I ended up with a 20x21 square layout). Now I only have 16 rows to go.

I like how it's turning out, however, I think I'll choose squares bigger than 3" if I ever do a quilt like this again. They are quite small.

Here's how I ended up storing it. One envelope for each row, and I also took pictures....just to make sure (thanks Jodie, that must be those organization-of-information-librarian-skills!)

This post-a-day thing is working out well for me already, I don't think I would have taken the time to sew today otherwise. The only other thing I had to blog about, was shopping for rainboots for Ask and shoes for Viola....

A post a day in May

Viola wanted us to have dessert today, so I helped her make her dessert of choice: Jello.

This time it was pineapple....

Our sewing-time of the day, was spent dealing with a storage-problem. You know how the lids for plastic-containers tend to be all over the place?
Not anymore! Viola and I made this little bucket-bag for them.

It works really well, and I am so pleased everytime I open the drawer and I can see what's in there -without having to move 20 lids out of the way first :-)

Have you read Allsort's blog? She has idea of posting every day in May, I'm going to take that challenge, and look what a great start I'm off to....I read the post a day late :-D

Happy me!

Today I got a package from Diana Martin in the mail...

She sent me so many beautiful pieces of fabric, Viola's favourites are SpongeBob and a blue print with stars and silver glitter, the candycanes, the cherries...... You get the idea :-)
I love the birds! The blue fabric on the bottom, it's so beautiful! I wonder if I'll be able to cut into that?!

Diana also sent this fun project:

This is going to be so great, Viola and I will get started on that asap!
Thank you so very much, Diana! I am completely overwhelmed! Now it's on to cutting, and then sewing! Exciting!

My mail-man also brought me this fabulous pattern I found on etsy

I looooove that red dress! I want that to be my wedding-dress! Only...in white and a little longer.

But today I had to sew a balaclavae for Viola. Can't let those little ears get cold...

Here's the pattern, if you have little ones prone to ear-infections...

Hopefully, I'll get all the cutting done soon, it's such a pleasure when working with such beautiful fabrics!
And then, it'll be on to sewing!!!

Stash justified

Now it's finally spring! And that means no more winter-clothes in kindergarten. It's too warm... However, spring came suddenly, and the warm rainpants I ordered for Viola are not here until friday! What to do?!

Well, either go out and buy something else....no! Or dig into the stash, and see if there is something useful.....

Wind- and waterproof pants with flannel-lining :-)
The fabric was meant for Ask, but since he doesn't start daycare until next month, he'll be okay!

The color is not something I would normally choose for Viola, so to make up for that, I put a little sequin-heart-patch on one leg.

That also makes it easier for her to see how to put on the pants :-)

She likes them and was happy to wear them today.
