A very good friend of mine was celebrating her 30th birthday last night. I made her pillows, based on her favourite colors.
The pillows are 20" square, I bought the actual pillow at Ikea, and made the pillowcases to fit.
This is the first one I finished, and look...I quilted a grid!! First time ever! I am pretty excited about that, I love grid quilting, but I could never do it. I did find out, what a difference a walking foot makes. Lol.
The next top is kaleidoscope blocks. I think these are so fun to sew :) And not at all as difficult as they look...
I had some trouble deciding how to quilt this one, but finally figured I might as well just try out the design I really liked -nomatter how intimidating.
So this is what I quilted, the quilting shows up best on the back. The front of each pillow is made like a mini-quilt before I assembled the pillowcase.
This is how the kaleidoscopes look after quilting
The last pillow-front is a snowball-pattern.
These are 20" sq....each snowball is 5"sq....at some late hour I then figured out that meant I would need 25 snowballs....yep! I messed up the math again ;) I really need to decide on layouts at a decent hour!
Here is a picture of all 3 pillows
My friend loves them, and that makes me so happy!
I am incredibly behind on blog-reading. I have over a hundred unread posts in my reader, and I can't wait to come by and see what you have all been up to!

Wow Tine! What a great job you´ve done!!! The pillows look really good! IKEA pillows are good and I buy them often when visiting at IKEA. I think I will make also some new pillows to bring colour to our livingroom! Have a nice week!
Fantastic pillows! I love the colors and the designs. You did a terrific job quilting them. They turned out great, it is no wonder why your friend loves them.

My favorite is the snowball one: I really, really like that you have used the background fabric for one of the snowballs! Good job :)

Hia Tine,
what a lovely job you made of the quilting. I really must get braver and learn to machine quilt. Your idea of quilted cushions seems like the ideal project to try the technique out. :-)
The red and turquoise together is so beautiful. Well done.
Love these pillows Tine! Great quilting too!
Oh man I am loving these colors!! Happy birthday to your lucky friend!!
Tine everything looks so great. The pillow. The quilting. The quilt. Man! You've been busy!
Sweet pillows! You did an awesome job :)
I'm just the opposite when it comes to quilting and wish I could free-motion quilt as well as you do. Grid quilting is my only move!
Someday I'll brave the free-motion world.
:)S
Great pillows - your friend is so lucky! You did really well on the quilting too. An do you know: we have been working with the same fabric - look at the one to the far left on my zigzag :-)
I love the kaleidoscope blocks! They do look hard. Humm, maybe I will have to give them a try someday.

Hope all is well.
Just checking in - hope you're having a nice birthday! According to my calculations it is today, right? :-)
Just wondering how you have been. The hour glass pattern is pretty close to the top of my quilting list. Your pillows turned out great.
What has become of Miss Tine?
She's been gone for such a long time. She's busy, we know, with class, craft, and family, but we miss our very nice friend.
