The Plain Spoken is finished!

I finished it!! Woohoo!! And I am so happy with how it turned out. The poly-cotton blend I used for batting is low-loft, and at first I found it very thin, but it is growing on me. And the quilt still keeps you warm, so all is well :-)

I am really surprised at how much I like the polka-dot binding. This is the first time I have made the binding cut from selvedge to selvedge. I usually make bias-binding. This was so much easier! I used this binding-tutorial, and it was so much easier than the bias...and it looks really good too! I cut my bindingstrips 5 cm (~1½").
It is app. 140cm x 200 cm (52" x 78"), a good size for a napping-quilt.

And here you can see the backing, I still cannot believe my luck in finding the fabric. It is a perfect match, and it was on sale!! It doesn't get much better than that! LOL.
The pattern is from the Modern Quilt workshop by Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr.
Love that book!

Now I just have to convince myself to wait until Christmas to give it to them....

Tine, this is stunning. You really did luck out on finding that perfect backing, and the polka dots just bring it all together.
I love Weeks and Kerr too, their work is so inspiring.
Really beautiful job!

Hey, we both finished our quilts - let's celebrate! Yours is lovely - I would really like to make a quilt in solid fabrics one day - I'm amazed by how much of an impact the quilting has. Your polka dot binding looks great as well, adding just that extra little zing to it. I too, prefer using straight cut binding - it is so much easier to work with, and as long as there are no curved edges - why not?

Tine, it is beautiful! I love using polka dotted fabrics for binding. It looks great! I would find it hard to wait until Christmas too! How did you choose your fabrics?

You're good! I love the colors, and your quilting is fantastic. I am so impressed. The backing is so pretty, too, and my only problem with the polka dots is that you didn't make the binding wider so we could see more of them!
LOL :>}
You have created a family heirloom!

That binding is so cool! Love the polka dots. I put all my bindings on that way, the only difference being that I don't press it when I fold it in half. It's so much easier to sew without the sharp pressed fold.

Your quilt is beautiful. :-)

Oh Tine what a lovely quilt! And your meandering quilting is looking fantastic (I still haven't tried this - custardy coward that I am!). The polka dot binding is gorgeous - I'm definitely of the belief that polka dots can be put into anything and everything. :-) How wonderfully satisfying to have this quilt all ready and beautiful as the weather turns colder for you.
