Sarah Fielke BOM - the top is done!!

It's done and it's huge.
The borders didn't really take as long to do as I had thought they would. I put them together in an afternoon!
The outer border that is. There was some fiddling with the size of the inner border...
But here it is

The top is done and I love it.
I am seriously considering hand quilting it.
What do you think?

Sarah Fielke BOM - center done ✅

The center of the quilt is done!
I managed to sew the blocks together without having to unpick at all!
I'm quite proud 😉

Here it is, hanging on a doorframe. I have no design wall. So this is it!

It's pieced using a new-to-me step down method

It was not as difficult as I had feared. But then Sarah does give the best instructions!

Now I am going to tackle the borders. But that have to be another day.
But soon! My templates for the 2017 BOM "Down the Rabbit Hole" have arrived. So I want to start that....

Sarah Fielke BOM - finished my blocks ;-)

I did get a lot of sewing done today too.
I also cheated and swapped 2 of the paper pieced blocks for some other pieced blocks.
I really don't like paper piecing....

I started out following Sarah's pattern

This block is pieced in a regular (to me) way. Meaning with no paper :-)

The colors are a little lighter than what I have used most of so far, but I think it works.

My LO will look something like this

I still need to sew all the blocks together. And add the borders.
At least I have the corner border blocks done. But I still need to cut all the triangles for the borders. I can't believe I made it this far!
I love this quilt already.

....it's Sarah Fielke's 2016 BOM "Happy Days"

Sewing - and a little bit of Copenhagen

I am finally feeling better! But you know how far behind you get?! After just a few days of being sick! Argh!
Anyway....today I really wanted to sew - and I really needed to catch up on some tidying and cleaning. Some laundry. Chores...
So, I made a rule: 45 mins sewing time, 30 mins of doing chores.
And it worked! I got so much done today! I am not at all done cleaning and tidying. Or sewing. I finished all 4 corner blocks, though. So I am ready to piece the last 3 blocks tomorrow - and hopefully cut some of the borders. We'll see how far I get!
This past week I spent a few days attending a class - this picture is taken in the morning on my way there. It's early, that's why it's a little dark..

A lot of these narrow streets are cobblestone and a pain to ride a bike on.
But they are very pretty!

This looks a little brighter 😊
I love these streets with the old and colorful houses ❤️

Sarah Fielke BOM - border corner blocks

I still have the flu 😷
I am getting better, but not even close to being ok 😖 I have spent most of the weekend sleeping, but I have also listened to podcasts and stitched.

Miss V had a sleepover at a friends house, and little A got to go to his dads house (thank you!), so I didn't have to look after anyone but me!
I finished 2 of the corner blocks for the outer border for my "Happy Days" quilt.
2 weeks left to finish the top, and 3 big blocks left to sew.
But first, I need to get rid of the flu...

Sarah Fielke BOM - block 18

I have the flu 😷
So I haven't posted in a few days, but before I got sick, I managed to finish this block for my Happy Days quilt

It's paperpieced , and it was fun to make!
Now I have 3 blocks to finish and the I can put this top together. And then borders!
Decisions decisions 😉

Sarah Fielke BOM - block 4

I am trying my best to finish the last blocks of my Sarah Fielke BOM 2016 "Happy Days"

I finished this today.
It is paperpieced and as always, Sarah's pattern is perfect and so well explained.
This was a fun block to sew. I hope to make the next block tomorrow.
.....and still need to pull the paper off of this one 😉

Sarah Fielke BOM - the Dresden plate

If I had read the instructions, and the underlined note next to the pattern, I would have known that Sarah's template included seam allowance. But no, that would have been too easy.
So after fudging and redoing my Dresden plate looks like this

It's fine, it's done and I am happy with it. The heating pad sewing took up all my sewing time this weekend, so I still need to piece 5 blocks! But that will hopefully be less challenging than making a Dresden from the wrong template 😊

Sarah Fielke BOM status

This is how far I am

Excuse my "design-floor" - I don't have a designated sewing space 😊

I am going to try to sew some of the pieces blocks this weeekend - hopefully I'll have a progress shot soon.
Happy weekend and happy sewing to you too!

Sarah Fielke BOM - update #3

I believe this is my last "catch-up" post for the Sarah Fielke Happy Days quilt.
I am still working on blocks and scrambling to get the top done before the new BOM starts 😊
I have finished the checkerboard block.

This was one of the blocks I finished during the Christmas holidays. I had prepped a lot of appliqué in advance - that meant I could sit and sew. It was very enjoyable and quite the success!

The block with the flowers in a cup was finished quite a while back, but just never shared:

The handle and the cup were challenging. But otherwise a fun block to sew.

Pattern is Happy Days, Sarah Fielke's 2016 BOM

Sarah Fielke BOM - the bird and the wreath!

This weekend I spent 6 hours on a train. So naturally I brought my appliqué
I finished this little bird

All I had prepped in advance for the wreath block was to glue down the bias tape.

I cut the leaves, made the hexies, glued everything down and started stitching. All while on the train!

I love these blocks!

Sarah Fielke BOM - update #2

For some reason I have been focused on the appliqué blocks in this BOM - but there are plenty of pieces blocks as well.
This is one of them, lots of hst's in this one

I do like how it turned out.

I also finished the block that has little curved almost-hexies flowers in a vase.

That one was really fun to sew! Now I have 3 appliqué blocks left to do, and a bunch of pieced blocks as well. I'll get there - it's a fun learning proces!

Tumbling blocks pillows - a birthday present

I have always liked the tumbling blocks pattern - also in fabric.
I had this idea of making one-color tumbling blocks pillows, that they would look good together.
So I started out with yellow

See? No Y-seams! That makes this sooooo much easier.
I finished the yellow pillow

...and started making a green in the same way

I chose some very colorful fish-stamp fabric for the back

And there you go! 2 tumbling block/fish stamp pillows done:

They were a present for a December birthday and they were well recieved - I do think that the recipient has more than enough pillows now, so if I want a bunch of these in different colors, I may have to make them for myself :-)

Sarah Fielke BOM - update

I have made some - but not all - of my blocks for the Happy Days quilt. Sarah Fielkes BOM for 2016.
I still need to finish some, and I would really love to get that done before her 2017 BOM starts at the end of January.
Anyway.....I have not been sewing the blocks in the right order, so heres what I've completed so far:

I finished Alain the bunny - I dreaded sewing him, but it was fine! Sarah explains everything in the pattern and the videos, so I had a lot of help!

I also finished the hexie flower, this was a fast and fun block. To me it looks a lot harder than it is. Fast and fun finish :-)

The hawaiian applique is fun, and it is easy to take along whereever you go, but this one sure did need a lot of stitches....and it had a lot of curves. But I like the way it turned out.

I have a few more, but they'll have to wait until the next post!

Sarah Fielke BOM - Block 19

I had a hard time choosing fabrics for this last block of month 3, block 19. I ended up making it very coordinated, the overall look of the quilt is going to be so scrappy, that I decided to keep the colors within the blocks more "calm"

This is before glueing the pieces down. Lots of curves in this block, lots of inside points - great for practising!

This is my progress so far:

I finished all the setting stars, and I have 3 vine border blocks left to stitch. But I have until October to get those done, so no rush...

The Splendid Sampler - Block 13, 16 and a bonus block...

It's been a while since I made some of the splendid sampler blocks, and you really do fall behind pretty quick... Today I started out just prepping some of the blocks, I had a really bad headache, and then prepping is a nice and quiet activity....

This evening, I was ready to sew, and I started by making block 16 "Pieces of Friendship"

I moved on to block 13 "Scrap Stars" - this one was a little tricky, so I took my time. I was so pleased that it came out the right size, because that's a lot of seams in one little 6.5'' block :-)

The last block I pieced today is a bonus block. Why not make an extra, when there are 4 patterns waiting for me.......??
But I just love this "Inside Out" block - and it really is a fast block to put together

I would like to make a whole quilt of these - but then I would probably make each block bigger......and wonky :-)

Sarah Fielke BOM - Block 1: The Bird Block

I have made some progress on my Sarah Fielke BOM "Happy Days". Somehow, between my different projects, I just don't seem to finish anything these days :-)

Anyway....this BOM is so fun, and I am learning so much. I would never have dared try to needleturn applique something like this bird:

But tonight I finished it, and I am so happy with how it turned out

Next up is a block with lots more circles, inside curves and small pieces....I can do it!

The Splendid Sampler - Block 12 "Checkerboard"

This was a fast and fun block to sew. I didn't cut all the little sqaures, but cut 1.5'' strips and went from there. I considered choosing a different color for each strip, but I have made the decision to stay as close to the original patterns as possible. For me to learn as much as possible.
So here it is:

This block was designed by Pat Sloan. It was fast and fun to sew. Makes me want to finally sew that trip around the world quilt :)

The Splendid Sampler - playing catch-up. Blocks 9, 10 and 11.

I have been working on a lot of other projects, so I have fallen behind on my blocks for The Splendid Sampler.
I had cut blocks 9, 10, 11 and 12 a few days ago, so they were ready to sew "whenever I had a couple of minutes" - I just never did! Or....when I did, I chose to do something else :)
Today I finally just sat down by my machine and started....

Block 9 "Local Quilt Shop"

This was a fun block, I really like house blocks, but I don't think I ever made one before! One of many advantages to The Splendid Sampler - trying new things!

Block 10 "Iowa"

This one reminds me of a frosted donut, or sherbert..... My daugther loves it and wants me to make her a pillow with one giant Iowa block.

Block 11 "Crocheted Thoughts"

This one obviosly still needs the crochet/embroidery. I am not sure how I am going to do that, So I am leaving it like this for now..

I still need to sew blocks 12 and 13. But I feel like I am caught up for now. I'll have some time to sew over the weekend - but I have a special block planned. So the sampler may have to wait until next week..

Black and White Squares WIP

Why not start something new? I only have a huge pile of quilttops waiting to be basted, quilted and bound... Anyway, I started this...

I first remember seeing this pattern in a sweater by Kaffe Fassett. It is fun, a bit of a pain to figure out the size of everything - I guess I forgot most of the geometry I learned...

I need to cut a lot more - this is going to be huge! I love it already :-)
Tomorrow is A's birthday, so I ma putting this away for now, but not for too long. Can't wait to satrt sewing those squares!
