Trains

We stayed in and played today :-) Ask really loves his train!
Didn't get any sewing done, I had to tackle the mountain of laundry!

The weekend will be busy too, and next week I have to start studying for my exam.... So who knows when I'll get to finish the I SPY. Of course I already have a ton of ideas for my next project! LOL!

I never did show you my finished paper.... Here it is:

Tootsie is on tv! -see ya....

I SPY quilttop done!

Look what I did today!
I really should have done some laundry, but Ask slept most of the day, and since we don't have a washing machine in the apartment, that was really not an option... Lucky me! So I sewed :-) And I'm really happy with how it is turning out.

I have a few different ideas for what borders -if any- I want. Hmm....how to decide?!

What would you do?

Another day at home

These are the pants I forgot to take a photo of yesterday. Viola wanted to wear them to kindergarten today, so I guess they have been approved :-)

Ask stayed home with me, he still has a cold.... We went out for a walk, he loves to sit in the backpack-carrier, and it's so much easier for me to get around that way!

And look at this find:

Someone was throwing it away! It will be perfect for Viola. It just needs a little fixing up, and it will be as good as new :-)

I also got my flickr Fat Quarter swap package from QuiltLady50 in the mail!

Look what she sent me! I'm so happy! Fantastic purple fabrics, a beautiful ribbon and a gorgeous handmade purse!

I am such a lucky swapper :-)

Time to sew

I finished Violas Mickey Mouse pants today, they are mid-calf-length, which she finds very wrong! "Mom! They are too small! These are not mine they are Asks!!" So maybe I will put them away until they fit him....in another 2 years :-)

I did sew a pair of pants she likes, I forgot to take a picture, so you'll have to wait until tomorrow to see them!

And Tonya was talking about forgetting things... I was driving myself nuts today, loosing everything. First, it was this:

I could have used a measuring tape instead, but I had just had it, and it must be here somewhere..... Eventually found it on my desk by the sewing machine!

Next it was my safety-pin. No, you did not misunderstand... This is my one and only safety-pin. Who, besides me, has only one!!?? That in itself is pretty silly (I always forget to buy more), but then loosing the one I do have!! That is really bad!

Well, I found that too, and promised myself -again- that I will buy myself some more safety-pins asap :-D

Now my sweetie is getting impatient, we have a stay-at-home-mini-date-while-the-kids-are-sleeping planned -so I'm off!

Manhole-cover quilts

I managed to find the photo of the quilts, and I scanned it so you can see it. Obviously I did not sew these!
I re-read my post from yesterday, and couldn't help thinking, that you all must think I have lost my mind! LOL...
Turns out I went to this quiltshow in 2001 or 2002! That's a while ago :-)
These are quilts made from pictures of japanese manhole-covers, you can see the drawing on the paper next to the quilts....well, they are quite small!

There are several flickr-groups dedicated to pictures of manhole-covers, from all over the world: Japan and New York and several other places.
Who knew they were popular?! I sure didn't :-)

Manhole-covers

I went to a quilt-show once....ages ago it seems. And there were a lot of beautiful quilts there, I am sure. But for some reason, I only remember one quilt, this was before digital cameras, so I don't have an awful lot af pictures!

The quilt was called manhole-cover, and apparently, the quilter had taken pictures of these for years, and had finally decided to use one of the designs in a quilt.

I thought it was beautiful, and a fun idea.... I took these photos today, wouldn't these designs make some fun quilts?

Lazy saturday

Ask and I played with trains today, I'm not sure this is the way they tell you to do it, but it's effective! LOL!

Ask and Charles napped together, and while they slept, Viola and I went shopping for a birthday-present for a friend. Our favourite bookstore is right by this churchtower, very originally called "The Round Tower". It was built by King Christian IV in 1642. It was built as an observatory, and originally it also held a library and an apartment! Imagile living there!
Now it's used for exhibits.

This is at the foot of the tower....Viola really wants to go up there, so next time maybe we will, and I can take you along with us :-)

We got a huge cookbook for our friend -regretted that many times as I was carrying it home! And I found Dr. Seuss translated to Danish! "Horton hears a who" is one of my favourites, but no point in reading it to my children in English... So I was happy to find it, and the translation is really good too!

We have read it twice already, but it's a bit long.....little ones get impatient :-)

Movie night!

I had a great day with Ask, he is still not well, but he's doing much better... He took a 2-hour nap, so I got a lot of work done! My parents were here to help us out today, and they took Viola out for the day! She was treated like a princess all day long -such a wonderful treat!

And now I'm watching Runaway Bride with my sweetie! -forgot where I found the picture....

I've been tagged!

I've been tagged by Trifty Mrs :-)

The rules: I have to answer 6 questions about myself. At the end of the post, I then tags 6 people and posts their names, then go to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they have been tagged and asking them to read my blog for the rules. Then, I must let the person who tagged me know when I've posted my answers.

1: What was I doing 10 years ago?
I was 25, and I was working in a store in Århus, Denmark.

2: 5 things from my to-do list today:
1: Write
2: Meeting with professor
3: Sort laundry
4: Read the rest of the litterature for my paper
5: Have fun with children

3: Snacks I like:
Coca-cola, ice-cream, cookies, cake.....pretty much anything unhealthy! LOL!

4: If I were a millionaire....
I would drop out of school and be a stay-at-home mom

5: Places I've lived:
1: Frausing, Denmark
2: Århus, Denmark
3: San Francisco, CA
4: Copenhagen, Denmark

I won't tag anyone, not that I don't think memes are fun (I love reading all your answers!) but it's late, I've been working all day....

My little one has a cold so bad he can barely breathe, and I just want to go to sleep! LOL!

Anyway, there should be a much more interesting post tomorrow. I'll be at home with Ask, there's no way he's going to daycare with that cold!

The Royal Danish School of Library and Information Science

This is my school. It's not a very pretty building, and I'm afraid it's not much prettier on the inside. But I guess that makes it easier to focus on the job at hand?!

I really wanted to show you the whole place, but then I forgot to take pictures :-(
Hopefully I'll do better tomorrow?! And now, I must work, and dream of the things I'll sew when I have handed in this paper!

Slim pickings

These, and my computer, are pretty much all I see these days.... The books are usually open though, and spread out all over my desk. LOL. Add to that the mountain of photocopied journal-articles, my pens, my notebook, and the everpresent Coca-Cola. That's what I surround myself with right now.

So as you can imagine, I don't experince a lot of blog-worthy stuff......but, hey! That's life too ;-)

Miniquilt done :-)

The 6"-12" mini quilt for the Flickr swap is all done. You'll have to wait until Imagingermonkey has received it before you can see it :-)
I'm happy with it!

On our way today, we passed this church in downtown Copenhagen. I think it's beautiful!

And thank you all so much for the comments on the tent-situation! I have definately gotten some very good ideas -and links- and I have high hopes for an ugly-tent-free future! Thank you :-)

Playhouse

Viola and I went to the Danish equivalent of Home Depot, and she really wanted to bring this little house home -and the slide! Can I have the slide, mom? Pleeeeease!!
But no :-(
We bought the stuff we needed, and to make sure the trip was not all bad, we went for something to drink...
Also I needed to figure out how to bring home that 80x80 cm bulletin board we bought.. I know my bike is big, but it's not that big!

This slush-ice did make her feel a lot better about the whole no-we-cannot-bring-the-house-home affair. Especially when she figured out, how red and blue make purple!

It's not that I don't sympathize with the play-house situation. This is the tent my kids play with....and let's just be honest, it's very very ugly!

We just don't have enough room to have a house that can't be put away. When taken down, this fits nicely under our sofa... But it is still ugly!

Then I saw this in a magazine:

and I thought.... Hmm, this is pretty! Maybe I could sew a pretty tipi for the little ones? It would be pretty, it would be something I could put away when it's not being used, it would be made with love...

So.. Does anyone know of a pattern, or some instructions for making a tipi?

On my way...

Everyday when I leave home, I pass this beautiful place. Right in the center of Copenhagen. Just a few pictures for you today... I'm beat!

Huge presents! Happy kids :-)

This is what I did today, I worked on my paper. I'm happy to report, that Ask is doing so well at daycare :-) He already has a lot of little friends. One of the other boys gave him a hug goodbye yesterday! I was so happy!
I missed my post last night, because I fell asleep.......again!

Today my sister is here, and she brought presents for the kids. Ask got a Duplo giant zoo, he was a little bit afraid of the box -it was bigger than him. LOL!

Viola liked all the animals too...

She got the Belville royal winter stables, lots of pink and purple, glitter and princesses...
-and a few borrowed animals from the zoo!

They both had so much fun playing with their new LEGOs, I'm sure it'll be the favourite toys for a very long time...

I'm beginning to be able to relax a little when Ask is at daycare, it makes it a lot easier to get some work done on my paper. I can't wait until I'm done with it....

End of holiday-weekend :-(

I took the kids to the playground today, so Charles could have a little bit of peace and quiet to finish some work. We're trying out different places to see what works best with a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old :-) They both seemed to enjoy this playground!

They are going back to daycare tomorrow, and Ask will be starting taking his nap there soon. I wanted to make him a special set of linens to snuggle under.

So I made this...

Viola and I have almost finished the Mickey Mouse pants, but I'll show you when we're all done. Also I've been working on the 6"quilt for Imagingermonkey, but can't show you that, until she has seen it.

Mothers Day

Look at how well my kids know me. This is the present they bought me -with help from Charles :-) The fabrics are from Viola, and the measuring tape is from Ask. He is always stealing mine, and leaving it in the strangest places.
It's been a great day! I love being a mom, every day of the year.

YAY! Weekend!

And it started off with me getting a package in the mail :-)

I'm doing the 6" - 12" miniquilt-swap over on Flickr, and my swappartner Imagingermonkey made this little beauty for me! I love it! Thank you so much :-)

My sweetie put up shelves for me, so now my sewing-stuff won't be scattered all over the place anymore! This is going to be such a relief, now I can put things away instead of just moving piles around :-)

Viola and I also cut fabric for a pair of 3/4length pants for her.
Hopefully we'll be able to do some sewing tomorrow.

Here's a little peak at what I'm working on for Imagingermonkey

And here's a picture for Tonya. This is our kitchen, with the turquoise glass-tile countertops. The tile was meant to be used in bathrooms, for floors I think, and the salesman thought I was mad for wanting it as my countertops. But I love the color, I love that it doesn't get stained and it's easy to clean.

As you can see, we have our neighbors pretty close by ;-)

These are my favourite...........shoes!

In terms of feeling good about wearing them, that is. I love these shoes! They are from Fly London Shoes, and they are really comfortable -as heels go, that is!
I don't wear them if I know I'll be carrying Ask around for hours..........

Speaking of Ask, we stayed home from daycare today. He really did not sleep very well at all last night, so I didn't think he was fit to spend a day away from home.
I enjoyed having him with me all day, cranky and sleepy as he was! We had a great day, played with his toys, went for a walk, hugged a lot, and took a very very long nap -well, Ask did! I worked on my paper...

I am so grateful for all the support I get from you all. It is really helping me out a lot!

I fell asleep!

Ask did so well yesterday, he played with his new friends, and didn't complain at all. I sat at the nearby coffee-shop, and studied. I am really quite busy, I have a 20 page paper due May 26th...

But I still found time to do some shopping.... This is a new house-dress. Viola and Charles love it, and want me to wear it out of the house too. We'll see about that!

And I got Ask some sandals for summer.

And....who can resist these little Tupperware-wannabies?! They are perfect for bringing raisins, nuts, grapes and all those little foods the kids like to eat :-)

Anyway, this was supposed to be yesterdays post, but after I fell asleep when I was tugging Viola into bed, and when I finally woke up, I just went right back to sleep in my own bed...
so there may just be 2 posts today!

Good mail-day

Look what I got in the mail today! I had completely forgotten about ordering these fabrics, so it was a nice surprise. They are for the back of the I SPY quilt. Viola loves dots and bubbles!

I don't really have a lot of time on my hands yet, I am still with Ask at day-care, today I left for 40 minutes, and he was fine! I was so happy, and somewhat less guilt-stricken ;-)
I spent the time studying at a nearby coffee-shop, looking at the time on my mobile every 20 seconds.....LOL!
Tomorrow they want me to leave for more than an hour, and hopefully I'll remember my camera.

Not keeping up at all :-(

Thank you for all the nice comments on the daycare-situation. We are trying to make the best of it!
It is stressing me out a bit, and I'm not posting everyday at all!! That has got to change :-)

This is a window-display at the Copenhagen Public Library. It's pretty amazing, this little "mouse-town" is made out of painted milk-cartons etc. It's made by Shane Brox, a former designer for Levi's.

Look at the castle -I apologize for the reflections in the window :-)

And here is a lazy little napping-mouse... Look at that cute little bookshelf!

And the toystore is definately worth a visit

Here's a view of downtown Mouseville...

My kids could spend the entire day here I think.

A day in the life of.....

This is Viola playing on the slide in front of our building! She loves that thing! I don't always love it so much, as it makes it very unappealing for a little girl to climb the 6 flights of stairs to the 3rd floor.

I didn't get much done today, besides the usual cleaning. I did get some fabric ready for washing, though. Viola picked these out by herself. She needs some sweatpants for the chilly mornings.

Obviosly that silvery blue fabric was an instant hit....and no.....they didn't have it in either pink or purple :-(

Appleblossoms....a present from Viola.

Keep your fingers crossed for Ask, he and I are going to visit his daycare every day next week, and hopefully after that, he'll be okay being there on his own.

-and I'll be sad, he's only 13 months old!

Sewing! YAY!

Today I got started on sewing the I SPY squares together. I set up my sewing machine in the kitchen, and it worked out really well..... Only one scare when Ask had crawled under the table and sat on the presser-foot! But luckily my hands were nowhere near the needle at the time :-)
It's an odd shape right now, but here's a little peek...

I managed to sew 4 rows today....that's 84 squares (for some reason I ended up with a 20x21 square layout). Now I only have 16 rows to go.

I like how it's turning out, however, I think I'll choose squares bigger than 3" if I ever do a quilt like this again. They are quite small.

Here's how I ended up storing it. One envelope for each row, and I also took pictures....just to make sure (thanks Jodie, that must be those organization-of-information-librarian-skills!)

This post-a-day thing is working out well for me already, I don't think I would have taken the time to sew today otherwise. The only other thing I had to blog about, was shopping for rainboots for Ask and shoes for Viola....

A post a day in May

Viola wanted us to have dessert today, so I helped her make her dessert of choice: Jello.

This time it was pineapple....

Our sewing-time of the day, was spent dealing with a storage-problem. You know how the lids for plastic-containers tend to be all over the place?
Not anymore! Viola and I made this little bucket-bag for them.

It works really well, and I am so pleased everytime I open the drawer and I can see what's in there -without having to move 20 lids out of the way first :-)

Have you read Allsort's blog? She has idea of posting every day in May, I'm going to take that challenge, and look what a great start I'm off to....I read the post a day late :-D
